England coach Eddie Jones has hit back at Bath owner Bruce Craig as the storm over England’s training methods continued.
Craig slammed Jones after Bath prop Beno Obano was ruled out of the year with a knee ligament injury, becoming the fifth player from Bath to get injured while at an England camp since the 2015 World Cup.
Jones responded by insisting that clubs have no right to instruct international coaches over their preparations for Test matches.
He continued his offensive against Craig after arriving in South Africa for England’s three-match Test series against the Springboks.
‘Bruce Craig sounds like the Donald Trump of rugby and has the same hairstyle,’ Jones said in Durban, where the team will be based for their tour.
‘Everything we do is about training to get better, it is not about satisfying some guy in Bath who has got plenty of money and thinks he knows everything about rugby.
‘It’s not my job to speak to club owners, it’s my job to coach the national team and if he’s such an expert on training preparation, then possibly he should start coaching.
‘If I knew that much, I would probably have as much money as him. Unfortunately, I don’t, so I will just stick to rugby.
‘Maybe he wants to coach Bath, who knows?’ Jones continued. ‘Maybe he wants to coach the Natal Sharks. I don’t really care what he says, it doesn’t affect what I do with the team. The players know that the training we do, we do for them to get better. We want to be the best team in the world and we train to get better.’
