Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies has opted not to enact the 21-day exit clause and will stay at the Lions after being the subject of interest from French club Agen.
The 2019 World Cup winner was reported to be in advanced talks over an exit to join Top 14 side Agen, but he has decided to stay in Johannesburg.
‘We obviously would have liked to have a player of this talent in the colors of Agen, especially since we are looking for a flyhalf,’ Agen president Jean-François Fonteneau told RMC Sport.
Jantjies was named as the Lions captain for the 2020 Vodacom Super Rugby season – after Warren Whiteley was ruled out of the season with a knee injury.

This comes after the deadline of SA Rugby’s 21-day contract exit window, which has seen a number of player movements.
The Lions have already lost four players – including hooker Malcolm Marx and Tyrone Green – to the clause, while assistant coach Neil de Bruin has also opted to cancel his contract with the union.
