Elton Jantjies has signed for the NTT Shining Arcs and will not be available for the Golden Lions in the Currie Cup.
The flyhalf will, however, return to South Africa for the Lions' Super Rugby campaign.
Jantjies, who has been linked with moves to the Kings and Cheetahs, has spent most of 2014 on the Lions' bench, with Marnitz Boshoff preferred at 10.
'I am looking forward to playing overseas as it has always been something I have wanted to do and I know I can gain experience that I can bring back with me,' said Jantjies in the Lions press release. 'The arrangements are being handled by my management company at present and we will only look to finalise the deal within the next week but I am still 100% committed to the Lions. I am looking forward to a successful last few games in this year’s Super Rugby competition.'
