Veteran prop Jannie du Plessis is reportedly set for a stunning return to South Africa to play for the Lions in Super Rugby.
The 37-year-old prop has been playing for French club Montpellier since 2015, but on Sunday Afrikaans newspaper Rapport reported that Du Plessis is set for a homecoming in 2020.
According to the report, the Lions are keen to secure the services of Du Plessis and Carlu Sadie in an attempt to strengthen the team’s front row stocks ahead of next year’s Super Rugby campaign.
It is understood negotiations between all parties involved are well underway and Du Plessis is now just waiting for approval from Montpellier before his return is made official.
Sadie, who had joined the Lions on a loan deal for the 2019 Super Rugby season before going back to Western Province for the recent Currie Cup tournament, is also believed to be close to a more permanent move to Ellis Park.
