Montpellier started life under Jake White with a 16-12 win over Toulon at the Altrad Stadium.

It was the perfect start for the former Sharks coach who joined the French giants earlier this week after Fabian Galthié was placed on gardening leave for the remainder of his contract.

For Toulon, the Top 14 and European champions, it was a second successive defeat after going down to Stade Français last week.

In Saturday's other matches, Charl McLeod scored as Grenoble eased past Oyonnax 33-19, Gaitan Germain kicked all his team's points as Brive saw off Bayonne 25-9, Castres picked up a valuable victory over La Rochelle and Racing Métro advanced their play-off ambitions with a 12-9 victory over Bordeaux.

In Friday's only match, Morné Steyn saw red as log leaders Stade Français went down 12-9 against Lyon.
