Cheetahs coach Hawies Fourie says there is concern over the injury suffered by wing Malcolm Jaer ahead of their opening match of the Super Rugby Unlocked campaign on Saturday.
Jaer started for the Green team in the Springbok Showdown at Newlands on Saturday, but suffered a knee injury early in the game and was taken off the field on the medical cart.
According to OFM, the 25-year-old underwent a scan yesterday but will have to have another assessment to determine the extent of his injury and his availability for Saturday’s match.
‘His injury is a big setback for us,’ Fourie said. ‘We have quite a number of outside backs who are injured – Rhyno Smith and Duncan Saal are injured, and now there is Malcolm as well.’
‘It will be a big blow if he can’t train and play for us this week. They couldn’t see any serious injury on the scan, but the knee is stiff and sore he won’t be able to train. But he says it is [feeling] a lot better.’
