Replacement flyhalf Carlo Canna kicked a late penalty as Italy beat Canada 20-18 in Toronto on Sunday.
The teams were locked at 9-9 at half-time, with the Italians scoring the only try of the match in the second half.
Canada scrumhalf Gordon McRorie and Italy flyhalf Tommy Allan each kicked three penalties in the first half.
McRorie slotted two more penalties and Allan one early in the second half, which saw the hosts lead 15-12, but it was shortlived as hooker Ornel Gega scored a try for the visitors.
Canada regained the ascendancy with McRorie kicking his sixth penalty, but that was cancelled out by Canna's 72nd-minute strike.
Canna was then yellow-carded for a dangerous tackle on wing Dan Moor, but the visitors were able to hold on for the win.
