World Cup-winning Springbok utility forward Pieter-Steph du Toit had reportedly agreed to a lucrative deal with Munster, but the high-profile move was blocked by the Irish Rugby Football Union.
According to reports in Ireland, Munster had lined up Du Toit to replace the retiring CJ Stander and negotiations between the parties had even progressed so far that Du Toit had in principle agreed to a one-year deal worth more than €600,000.
Munster, though, had to renege on their agreement after IRFU performance director David Nucifora vetoed the lucrative deal amid the sweeping financial cuts many players at the club and the rest of the country are facing due to Covid-19.
Following the IRFU decision, Munster then subsequently identified Jenkins as an ideal, and more affordable, recruit to fill the gap left by Stander.
