Leinster and Ireland flank Dan Leavy has been ruled out for the remainder of the year due to a serious knee injury.

Leavy was stretchered off in the 63rd minute of the Champions Cup quarter-final between Leinster and Ulster, having replaced Sean O’Brien only 10 minutes earlier.

In a statement, Leinster confirmed that Leavy underwent a scan on Sunday and although further assessment is needed to determine the exact extent of the injury, he will not play again this year.

This was Leavy’s first game back since 10 November when he suffered a neck injury in Ireland’s Test against Argentina in Dublin.
