The Blues have been hit by an early injury blow as star back Rieko Ioane is expected to be sidelined for up to a month with a fractured hand.
Ioane is one of three players who have been ruled of Vodacom Super Rugby action for a prolonged period following the 37-29 loss to the Chiefs last Friday. Prop Alex Hodgman (torn calf) and hooker Ray Niuia (knee) are the others, with Niuia’s injury ruling him out for the season.
No expected date has been set for Ioane’s return, but hand fractures generally take around a month to heal properly.
It comes as a massive blow to the Blues, especially as the 22-year-old was looking set for an impressive start to the season after scoring a brace against the Chiefs.
