Lions captain Warren Whiteley’s knee injury is not as serious as originally feared and will only keep him out of action for the next few weeks.
Whiteley sustained the injury in the Lions’ victory over the Chiefs in Hamilton, with fears that he could be set for another lengthy period on the sidelines.
However, the Lions confirmed on Wednesday that the No 8 has a small cartilage tear, which is expected to settle over the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, it was also confirmed that Cyle Brink, who picked up a knee injury against the Crusaders, is expected to be fit for next weekend’s match against the Waratahs in Johannesburg.
Sylvian Mahuza, also a casualty of the Crusaders match, has a more serious knee ligament injury and is undergoing further tests to determine the full extent of the damage.
