The Lions have confirmed that fullback Gianni Lombard has ruptured his ACL and will be out for around nine months.

It’s a considerable blow for the Lions, with Lombard having shown glimpses of his immense potential at the start of Vodacom Super Rugby Unlocked.

The only slight glimmer of good news is the fact that the injury is said to be on his right knee (the opposite side of a previous injury).

Lombard will consult a specialist this week with regard to surgery.
