Saru president Oregan Hoskins has called for an application made by the Agency for New Agenda regarding transformation to be dismissed with punitive costs.
Back in October, the little known political party launched a court application to prevent the Springboks from participating in this year’s World Cup based on the allegation that the Bok team does not fully represent the majority of South Africans.
The bid came to naught during court proceedings at the beginning of September, with the issues at hand deemed too vast to address in an urgent application.
In its renewed bid, ANA has made further demands related to transformation in rugby, even calling for president Jacob Zuma to appoint a commission of inquiry into the matter.
According to the Pretoria News, Hoskins cited the work Saru was doing to accelerate the rate of transformation in an answering affidavit, and said the allegations had been brought with a shocking level of disregard and ignorance.
‘The application itself is entirely vexatious and should be dismissed, accompanied by a punitive costs order … Transformation is a priority and it is our moral obligation to ensure that Saru plays its role in the development and empowerment of all South Africans.’
