Saru president Oregan Hoskins is supporting Bok coach Heyneke Meyer.
Having recently come under fire after the Boks’ first-ever defeat to Argentina on 8 August, which included accusations around the demographics of his team selections, Meyer was a clearly relieved man when the team bounced back to secure a victory over the Pumas in Buenos Aires last Saturday.
At a meeting with the Federation of Unions of SA (Fedusa) in Durban on Wednesday, Hoskins said it was important to get behind the team and coach as they head towards the World Cup.
‘I’ve made it clear to Fedusa that I fully support the national coach in his endeavours to win the World Cup. I’ve made mistakes in the past when it came to previous coaches and I’m the first one to put up my hand and say that I’ve made mistakes as I’m only human,’ Hoskins told Business Day.
‘I know it’s important to win the World Cup in England and if we’re going to make the late Nelson Mandela, 50 million people and the entire continent proud, we need to support the coach because he doesn’t stand a chance if we listen to the naysayers.’
