Scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse produced a memorable display in Kimberley as the Sharks claimed victory over a gallant Griquas side on Saturday.
Hendrikse, who was unlucky to miss out on Springbok squad selection, was front and centre once again for the Sharks as the Durban-based side scrapped to a 30-16 victory in their Currie Cup opener.
Matchflow: For an early afternoon game played in bright sunshine and on the hard home turf of Griquas, this was always going to be a challenging clash for the visiting Sharks who have lost a host of star players to national duty.
In this context, the Durbanites will be happy enough with the end result.
At half time, the only difference between the two sides was effectively the impressive try scored by captain Phepsi Buthelezi, with Hendrikse providing the assist.
After the break, the Sharks secured the ascendancy with two tries in as many minutes, with first Jeremy Ward dotting down before a no-look pass from Hendrikse sent Hyron Andrews away to score.
From that point on, there was only going to be one winner, although Griquas certainly made the scoreline look flattering with two tries in the final half an hour.
