All Blacks coach Steve Hansen says the Rugby Championship winners should play the Six Nations champions as part of a new global season.
World Rugby is currently exploring options that will allign the seasons of the northern and southern hemispheres from 2020 onwards. If these plans go ahead, then there's a chance that the Super Rugby champions will face the Champions Cup winners. Hansen, however, would also like to see the winners of the Rugby Championship and Six Nations tournaments going head to head.
'It's a no-brainer,' Hansen told the Daily Mail. 'You've got to say, “What's best for our product so we can keep attracting people to come and watch it?”
'First, our players need a decent pre-season. You'd play club competitions simultaneously. We could have the Champions Cup winners play the Super Rugby winners and the Six Nations winners play the Rugby Championship winners. We need some goodwill to sort it out.'
If such a system existed in 2016, then the Hurricanes would play Saracens for the title of world's best club, while the All Blacks (the Rugby Championship winners) would face England (the Six Nations champs).
