Halfpenny out of World Cup

Wales fullback Leigh Halfpenny will be sidelined for six months with a knee injury.

Scans confirmed the 26-year-old Halfpenny tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Wales' 23-19 victory over Italy in Cardiff last Saturday.

In a statement, the Welsh Rugby Union confirmed their premier goal-kicker and star fullback would see a surgeon on Wednesday for further assessment.

'Leigh will undergo further examination and assessment before more details are announced,' read the official statement.

The statement also says that no further news was available regarding the injury to scrumhalf Rhys Webb, but that an update on his condition will be given in due course.

'Further medical updates regarding the national squad will be made when available,' said the WRU.
