Habana’s hot streak continues

Published on January 31, 2015 | Leave a response

Bryan Habana scored yet another try for Toulon as they beat Bayonne 24-17 at the Stade Mayol on Friday.

The Bok winger's try came in the seventh minute of the Top 14 match after a number of offloads saw the defence rush up quickly. Centre Maxime Mermoz put in a little grubber kick, with Habana the fastest to the ball.

The French Top 14 champions were not at their best, with a number of players on international duty, but did enough to secure the four log points.

On Saturday, Jake White's Montpellier recovered from having scrumhalf Benoit Paillaugue sent off after 20 minutes for a tip tackle as they beat Bordeaux-Bègles 34-24.

In other results, Brive thrashed Grenoble 23-0, a late converted try gave La Rochelle a monumental 16-12 victory over visiting Clermont, five penalties from flyhalf Benjamin Urdapilleta saw Oyonnax beat Stade Français 15-13, flyhalf Johan Goosen kicked a conversion and two penalties as Racing Métro edged Lyon 13-11, and Castres were unable to make progress at the bottom of the Top 14 log, beaten 13-9 by Toulouse.

Round 17 results:

Toulon 24 Bayonne 17
Montpellier 34 Bordeaux Begles 24
Brive 23 Grenoble 0
Stade Français 13 Oyonnax 15
La Rochelle 16 Clermont Auvergne 12
Lyon 11 Racing Métro 13
Castres 9 Toulouse 13
