Bryan Habana expects Rieko Ioane to break the record of most tries scored in a single World Cup tournament.
Jonah Lomu (1999 World Cup), Habana (2007) and Julian Savea (2015) currently share the record of eight. Lomu and Habana share the record for most World Cup tries overall (15).
Ioane has scored 22 tries in 24 Tests, and Habana believes the All Blacks wing can get another nine or more at next year’s World Cup in Japan.
‘To be brutally honest, I think it is written on the wall for Rieko to break the World Cup record of the most tries in one competition,’ said the Bok wing, who scored 67 tries in 124 Tests.
‘He has a phenomenal strike rate, and has every opportunity to beat the record, and records are there to be broken.’
The All Blacks will be in Pool B at next year’s World Cup along with the Springboks, Italy, Namibia and Canada.
