The Griquas’ match against the Vodacom Bulls scheduled for Kimberley on Saturday has become the first Currie Cup game to be called off due to Covid-19 protocols.
SA Rugby confirmed on Thursday that the fourth-round match has been cancelled after players and management from the Bulls returned positive tests for Covid-19 this week.
The match will not be rescheduled and has instead been declared a draw, with both teams receiving two log points.
This could be a crucial outcome as far as the log is concerned as the Sharks, who travel to Johannesburg to face the Lions on Saturday, could potentially cut the Bulls’ lead at the top of the table to just three points with a win at Ellis Park.
The other two Currie Cup matches scheduled for this weekend between the Pumas and Cheetahs in Nelspruit on Friday, and the Lions vs the Sharks in Johannesburg on Saturday, are unaffected.
Three Super Rugby Unlocked games were called off due to Covid-19 protocols earlier in the season, including the round-seven clash between the Sharks and Stormers in Durban.
