Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx is on the cover of the new SA Rugby magazine, on sale now.
Marx has established himself as the world’s best hooker.
Having missed the Springboks’ Test series against England in June due to injury, the 24-year-old returned for the business end of Super Rugby and was simply sensational as the Lions reached a third consecutive final. Who can forget that 45m interception try he scored in the quarter-final against the Jaguares or the vital breakdown steals he made inside the Lions’ red zone?
Marx would finish the Super Rugby season with 12 tries – the most by a forward – and as many turnovers. He also dominated on defence, won 90% of his lineouts and was part of a Lions pack that never lost a scrum.
The scary thing for Marx’s opponents is that he believes there’s still room for improvement. If that’s the case, then he is clearly destined for greatness.
In the new issue of SA Rugby magazine, Marx talks about his 2018 season, including the work he has put in at the breakdown, while former Bok hooker John Smit accesses Marx’s progress after two seasons at Test level.
