Springbok and Racing 92 utility back Johan Goosen has retired from professional rugby.

Racing president Jacky Lorenzetti announced the news in an official statement, confirming the 24-year-old Goosen will return to South Africa to take up a commercial director position in the private sector.

According to Lorenzetti, Goosen failed to meet his contractual obligations since his return from international duty with the Springboks, despite recently signing a lucrative contract extension with Racing until 2020.

'Goosen, whose contract was overwhelmingly re-structured a year ago, now claims to be free in an incredible way,' said Lorenzetti. 'He has announced today that he has taken the incredible decision to end his playing career, to return to South Africa for a strong role as a commercial director.

'We regret that such a talented player has gone astray and decided to abandon professional rugby as it seems obvious that the role of commerical director is incompatible with high level sport,' he added.

Lorenzetti hinted that the club is ready to take Goosen to court for breach of contract.

'We wish to add that Racing has always strongly supported Johan Goosen both morally and financially. Naturally, we reserve the right to give such conduct all appropriate legal actions towards Johan Goosen and those who advise him.'

Goosen joined the French club in 2014 and was named Top 14 Player of the Year for 2015/2016 season after helping Racing win the French title and guiding them to the Champions Cup final.

Since making his international debut in 2012, Goosen has won 13 Test caps for Springboks, the last of which came in the Boks' final game of the year against Wales.
