The Lions could be boosted by the return of Jamba Ulengo in as little as a week’s time, while two other players are expected to return to fitness in time for the Currie Cup playoffs.
Ulengo suffered a grade 3 MCL knee injury earlier in the year, but the Lions released a statement on Monday confirming the wing is close to fitness and could possibly be ready for selection within a week.
Utility back EW Viljoen also sustained a grade 2 hamstring injury and is expected to start non-contact training from 11 January.
Prop Sti Sithole is said to be recovering well from his grade 1 pectoral muscle team and will be reassessed on 4 January.
The Lions’ team announcement for their upcoming match against the Pumas will be made on Thursday, 31 December at 14:00.
