Franco Mostert will not make his Gloucester debut against the Bristol Bears on Friday.
Gloucester academy head Richard Whiffin said Mostert won’t be considered for selection as he will only join the club on Thursday.
Rassie Erasmus confirmed on Monday that the lock would not play for the Springboks against England on Saturday as the Test falls outside the international window.
‘He’s not been in the building yet, I don’t think anyone has shook his hand so he won’t be playing for us,’ Whiffin told GloucestershireLive.
Meanwhile, Glocuester flank Jaco Kriel has regained fitness and is available for Friday’s Premiership match.
The Bok flank, who joined the English club in May this year, had double shoulder surgery on a long-standing injury.
‘He’s one of the guys that was available for selection,’ Whiffin said. ‘He’s someone we’ve got to be really careful with the length of injury he’s coming back from so his involvement going forward over the next few weeks will have to be heavily managed and controlled from decisions above me.’
