The Glasgow Warriors grabbed a 33-24 bonus-point win against the Cardiff Blues, while there were also European Champions Cup wins for Saracens and the Exeter Chiefs on Sunday.
In an intense clash at the Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow dominated for an hour before having to survive a late fightback from Cardiff, who came within four points of the lead before a George Horne try sealed the match.
The victory takes the Warriors into second place on 19 points in Pool 2, setting up an interesting showdown against pool leaders Saracens.
After a scrappy opening quarter, it was the home side that took the lead when Grant Stewart went over from the back of a maul, with flyhalf Brandon Thomson, who had a near perfect day with the boot, adding the conversion.
Minutes later, the Warriors got their second as a dominant scrum inside the Blues’ 22 allowed Scott Cummings to slice through the defence.
However, Cardiff narrowed the scores just before the break when Dan Fish produced a wonderful bit of skill when he chipped the ball ahead to allow Owen Lane to bundle over and make it 14-5 at half-time.
That joy was short-lived as Glasgow seemed to kill the game off when tries from Chris Fusaro and prop Oli Kebble gave them the bonus point on the hour mark.
The Blues hit back again as Owen Lane played a cutting final pass to Harri Millard, who dived over, before a further two tries from Josh Navidi and Lane set up a big finish. It was the home side who ended the match stronger, as replacement Horne went over to seal the victory.
In other results, Saracens became the first team to make it into the last eight with a 28-10 victory over Lyon. A brace from centre Nick Tompkins boosted the English Premiership champions, who remain the only side unbeaten in the tournament.
Earlier in the day, the Exeter Chiefs stayed in touch with Pool 2 leaders Munster by claiming a 34-12 win over Castres. The English club moved above Castres into second place and currently sit four points off Munster.
