Controversial former Wallaby Israel Folau could be set for a sensational return to rugby union following his sacking by Rugby Australia back in 2019.
The cross-code star has been playing rugby league for the Catalans Dragons in the European Super League after he was booted from rugby union following his controversial social-media posts and subsequent legal battle with RA.
The 31-year-old was handed his marching orders back in 2019 following a drawn-out and very public investigation over homophobic social-media posts.
According to French news publication Midi Olympique, at least three Top 14 clubs – Bayonne, Montpellier and Toulon – are interested in signing Folau ahead of the 2021-22 European season.
It is believed that while Toulon and Montpellier are still just considering Folau as an option, Bayonne have already made contact with the player and his agent.
