Sharks fullback and Springbok hopeful Aphelele Fassi has been ruled out for up to four months due to a shoulder injury.
The untimely injury is a massive setback for the young fullback, who is widely regarded as one of the most promising players in South Africa.
He will now miss the Sharks’ match against the Bulls on ‘Vodacom Super Fan Saturday’ next week, the Green and Gold showdown and a large part of the forthcoming domestic competition, possibly all of it.
The unfortunate injury news was verified by SARugbymag.co.za, with Fassi having undergone surgery.
The 22-year-old was also a strong contender for the Springbok selection for the upcoming Rugby Championship, but will now be sidelined for three to four months.
In a further blow for the Sharks, wings Sbu Nkosi (chest) and Madosh Tambwe (tight) and hooker Kerron van Vuuren (chest) are also struggling with injuries.
