Exeter upset Saints again

The Exeter Chiefs claimed a 21-10 victory over the Northampton Saints on Sunday to complete the double over the English Premiership log leaders.

The result sees Exeter climb to fourth on the standings, while Northampton's 10-point lead at the top is reduced to six.

Fullback Phil Dollman grabbed the opening try for Exeter in an entertaining match where both sides attacked from deep. Flyhalf Henry Slade failed to add the extras, but responded with a penalty moments later.

Just before the break, fullback James Wilson got the Saints on the scorecard with a five-pointer. However, a penalty try and two further penalty kicks from Slade in the second period were enough for Exeter, even though the reigning champions scored a consolation effort through winger Jamie Elliot.

On Friday, Bath recorded a 29-19 bonus-point win over the Newcastle Falcons, despite playing with 14 men for 10 minutes after flank Carl Fearns was sin binned.

On Saturday, Harlequins defeated Gloucester 29-16 in a match which produced four yellow cards, while Saracens ended Leicester's five-match winning streak with a 22-6 victory.

In other results on Sunday, wing Tom Varndell scored a hat-trick as Wasps thumped London Welsh 40-13 at the Kassam Stadium and London Irish dented Sale's hopes of a top-six finish with a 25-23 win at the Madejski Stadium.

Exeter 21 Northampton 10
