The Exeter Chiefs grabbed a last-gasp 31-30 win against the Northampton Saints, while there were also wins for Newcastle, Bath, London Irish and Leicester in the English Premiership.
Despite the distance between the two clubs on the log, the Saints put in a strong showing to come within a whisker of upsetting the current league leaders.
Northampton took an early 7-0 lead thanks to a try from Wallabies centre Rob Horne, before the Chiefs levelled matters through a penalty try.
Exeter then went ahead when loosehead prop Alec Hepburn barged over, with flyhalf Gareth Steenson adding the extras.
However, Northampton responded with a penalty from replacement flyhalf Stephen Myler and then a try from wing Ben Foden to see them go 17-14 ahead at half-time.
Fullback Harry Millinder gave the Saints the perfect start to the second half as he extended their lead to 24-14.
Steenson and Saints flyhalf Piers Francis then exchanged penalties before flank Don Armand crossed for the Chiefs to set up a tense finale.
The Chiefs then peppered the Saints tryline with numerous attacks, which ended with No 8 Thomas Waldrom crashing over near the posts, allowing Steenson to kick the match-winning conversion.
In other results, Wasps centre Jimmy Gopperth kicked a late conversion to give his side a 25-25 draw against Gloucester, Bath snatched a late 33-32 win against the Sale Sharks, Newcastle secured a comfortable 28-10 win against Harlequins, Piet van Zyl scored a crucial try to steer London Irish to a 22-9 win against Worcester Warriors, and the Leicester Tigers picked up a deserved 28-20 victory over Saracens.
