Former Southern Spears big boss Tony McKeever is believed to be interested in the Western Province Rugby Union’s vacant chief executive officer position.
McKeever, who formerly occupied a similar position at the Southern Spears before they became the Southern Kings, is now the driving force behind the groundbreaking partnership between French club Stade Français and WP, and he is even busy acquiring sponsors for the Cape union.
According to a report on Netwerk24, McKeever is now looking to integrate himself further into WP’s ranks with his eyes on the CEO post that is still vacant since the departure of Paul Zacks early in 2020.
‘I’d love to put the Stormers on a trajectory with their move to Europe,’ McKeever admitted. ‘I previously helped with the negotiations for the Cheetahs and Kings’ inclusion in the PRO14.
‘At this level, there’s no room for anyone to learn the ropes while he is in the position. Without the necessary administration experience and knowledge of negotiating broadcast deals, you’ll get stuck,’ he added.
