Brent Janse van Rensburg will become Griquas’ new head coach after signing a three-year deal.
He will succeed Peter Engledow, who is set to join Paarl Boys’ High after Griquas opted not to extend his contract.
Janse van Rensburg vacated his position as Pumas coach a month ago.
The 38-year-old, who got the job ahead of Griquas assistant coach Pieter Bergh, Eugene Eloff and Jonathan Mokuena, said he thought long and hard before accepting it.
‘My wife and I went through a process of elimination. Any move would have had to suit both of us and because of that I withdrew my name from the shortlists for the Paarl Boys’ and Kings vacancies,’ he said.
‘The freedom and support I’ll receive from the Griquas board was a determining factor as was the union’s assistance to help my wife find a suitable job in Kimberley.’
