The RFU has prematurely ended a trial, which saw the legal tackle height lowered to below the armpit, due to a rise in concussions.
The trial was introduced into the second-tier Championship Cup, with the aim of reducing high tackles. Referees were instructed to penalise any tackle above the armpit line of the ball-carrier.
However, according to The Telegraph, English club directors were informed this week that the law will be discontinued from the quarter-final stage, taking place next weekend, onward.
While the law change did see a decrease in the number of high and upright tackles, it simultaneously saw an increase in the number of concussive incidents, especially in comparison to the Championship league, which did not feature the law change.
