Springbok lock Franco Mostert is reportedly a sought-after recruit by a number of English clubs.
According to a report in The Rugby Paper, Bristol, Gloucester, the Leicester Tigers, Bath, Sale Sharks and Worcester Warriors are in a six-way fight to sign Mostert once his contract with the Lions comes to an end next year.
It is believed Bristol – who are currently playing in the English second division – are leading the race, and have already initiated talks with the player’s representatives.
However, the report suggests Gloucester also have a good chance of getting Mostert on their payroll because of the player’s close ties with the club’s new head coach Johan Ackermann.
Mostert worked under Ackermann at the Lions, and was part of the squad that reached two successive Super Rugby finals in 2016 and 2017.
Mostert has played 15 Tests for the Springboks since making his debut against Ireland last year.
