Wing Chris Ashton has been ruled out of England’s match against the Wallabies at Twickenham on Saturday, due to a calf injury.
Ashton was selected in the England squad earlier this month for the first time in over four years, and played in their previous three Tests against the Springboks, All Blacks and Japan.
The 31-year-old was forced to leave the field during the game against Japan last Saturday, and it has since been confirmed that he sustained a calf strain and is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks.
‘Chris was scanned [on Monday] and has been ruled out for a couple of weeks,’ said England assistant coach Steve Borthwick.
‘Chris is a fantastic player who knows his way to the tryline. He’s been great around the squad the last few weeks. It’s very disappointing, but it gives an opportunity to another player. We have a lot of good wings.’
