Western Province Rugby's business arm has been placed into final liquidation by the Western Cape High court on Tuesday.
WP filed court papers to liquidate its professional arm after facing a multi-million rand claim and on Tuesday Judge Binns-Ward granted the application and the union was placed into final liquidation, despite Aerios's bid to prevent the liquidation from being granted.
'Judge Binns-Ward found the allegations levelled against WP by Aerios had no merit and its opposition based on fraud and an abuse of the court process was dismissed in his judgment,' said WP Rugby in a statement.
'The court also found that the genuine intention of the in bringing the liquidation application was the best interests of WP's creditors.'
'The liquidators have taken full control of the business wing of WP and will ensure that the winding-up is proceeded with in the best interests of all of its creditors, employees, players and other stakeholders.'
