The Australian Rugby Union will face a state inquiry into its decision to axe the Force from Super Rugby.
The ARU has been ordered to bring forward full documentation and potentially sensitive email trails for the inquiry.
Western Australian senator Linda Reynolds said she hoped the report would reveal all the necessary facts after RugbyWA lost its court appeal.
‘The Force is so much more than a sports team,’ she told the Herald Sun. ‘It’s a community and the devastation that community faces [means] Western Australians need transparency and they need to understand the process and reason behind it as captain Matt Hodgson said.’
The ARU has claimed that it would have been broke by late 2019 and potentially in debt with A$26-million (R267-million) by the end of 2020 if five Australian Super Rugby teams had been retained.
The axing of the Force will save the ARU A$18-million over the period from 2018-2020.
