Elton Jantjies concedes that consistency throughout the season will be key if he wants to cement his position as first-choice Springbok flyhalf in the lead-up to the 2019 World Cup.
In a candid interview with Rapport newspaper, Jantjies admits his performances for the Springboks in 2017 were below par and that he needs to improve his game immediately, in order to nail down a spot in the national team over the next 18 months before the World Cup.
‘It’s important to deliver good performances for 20 weeks, not just an excellent display one week and a poor display the next,’ he said.
‘In terms of playing opportunities, I’d had a good year for the Boks. But there are certain aspects I need to work on like when to kick and when to pass. I have to be more accurate in my decision-making.’
Of his desire to compete at the next World Cup in Japan, Jantjies says his conditioning and rehabilitation from this point forward will be imperative.
‘It’s important to be well-rested and relaxed at the start of a new campaign. Your body can’t be tired.’
