Eastern Province celebrate their Iqhawe Week win EP victorious at Iqhawe Week
Published on October 4, 2018 | Leave a response

Eastern Province took top honours in the U15 Iqhawe Week as they defeated the Golden Lions 18-10 in the final match at the Bill Jardine Stadium on Thursday.

The boys from the Eastern Cape started the clash strongly after a converted try by inside centre Serue Serue and penalty by flyhalf Wessie Odendaal earned them an 11-0 lead, before the Lions struck back with a Mzwandile Dube try and a penalty, making it a one-point game at the break.

Eastern Province held their nerve in the second half, with Serue crossing the tryline for the second time on the stroke of full-time, sealing the victory for them.

In other results, the Griffons delivered a strong second-half showing to outplay Griquas 40-17 after the teams entered the break level at 12-12. Such was the high quality of their attack that they scored six tries, with flyhalf Marcus Stols bagging a brace.

The Leopards made their presence felt from the outset against Border, scoring five tries for a comprehensive 31-12 victory. Wing Isaac Muchanga scored a brace and fullback Bukho Ngxakamba kicked three conversions for the Leopards

The Sharks finished their week on a high with a 25-7 victory over Border, Western Province defeated the Pumas 23-10, a brace by the Valke’s Keagan Kochs pushed them to a 21-5 victory against Free State, while flyhalf Byron Jansen’s extra conversion and penalty goal proved to be the difference in the Blue Bulls’ 22-17 win against SWD.
