The USA beat Japan 23-18 in their Pacific Nations Cup match in Sacramento on Saturday.
It was the Eagles' first win against the Brave Blossoms since 2003.
The USA lost their first match of the tournament against Samoa, but were too good for a Japan team that rested several first-choice players.
Flanker Andrew Durutalo scored the Americans' only try, with flyhalf AJ MacGinty kicking six penalties as his team came from 18-9 down to record the win.
