Worcester Warriors flank Cornell du Preez is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a throat injury during their 21-20 loss to Wasps on Saturday.
The Scotland international was taken to hospital where it was confirmed that he had injured his larynx and is set to undergo surgery.
The 27-year-old was on debut for the Warriors after joining Alan Solomons’ side from Edinburgh in June.
‘Cornell is stable and resting in hospital,’ Solomons confirmed after the game. ‘Further surgery will be required. The club is providing full support for Cornell and his family.
‘I don’t know what happened. I haven’t seen it, but something must have hit him. He is not going to fracture his larynx [without being hit].
‘It’s major and that’s the way I understand it.’
