Naka Drotské is talking again after his ventilator was removed on Christmas Day.
The former Springbok hooker was shot three times during an attempted robbery at his brother Tinus’ smallholding in Kameeldrift, outside of Pretoria, on the night of 29 November.
He was discharged from hospital after being operated on, but suffered a setback in his recovery and had to be readmitted to the ICU ward on 11 December.

Drotské, who was set to go into theatre on 26 and 31 December to have the wound in his arm cleaned, was not only able to speak again on Christmas Day, according to Netwerk24, but could breathe on his own, walk and sit upright.
Naka’s wife, Marzanne, said he had reached a turning point last Saturday and made the choice to fight after his mother, Hettie, from Senekal, had visited him.
It was the first time she had seen her son since the shooting.
