The Lions were their own worst enemies in the second half of the match in Buenos Aires, according to SARugbymag.co.za's Opta-powered stats.

Johan Ackermann picked a second-string Lions side to do duty against the Jaguares on Saturday. The dirt-trackers played with passion and intensity, especially in the first half. But as the stats suggest, they were ultimately undone by mistakes and ill-discipline in the second stanza.

The Lions conceded two yellow cards in the final half hour. They gave away a monstrous 17 penalties, 10 of those in the second stanza.

Their defensive effort was also well below par, especially in the latter stages of the game. The Lions missed 27 tackles, 16 of those in the second half.

The Jaguares dominated the scrums and breakdowns. They won 11 scrums in all, and forced eight turnovers on defence.

The hosts also won the territorial battle, spending 56% of the contest in the Lions' half of the field.
