Glenwood have confirmed that DHS has decided to sever all sporting and cultural ties with them after a resolution between the schools could not be reached.
A letter from Glenwood principal Dr Andri Barnes confirmed the reports that the relations between Glenwood and DHS have hit a low point.
‘The rugby fixture between Glenwood and DHS goes back to 1925,’ an excerpt from the letter read. ‘We are therefore very disappointed with the decision of Durban High School to sever ties and cancel all sporting and cultural fixtures between these two schools.
‘It is unfortunate that a resolution could not be reached, as was the case in 2013 when a similar issue arose between the two schools.
‘Glenwood abides by the protocols established by the state boys’ high schools with regard to admissions, pupil transfers and teacher recruitment.’

It is not the first time that tensions have arisen between the two KwaZulu-Natal-based schools. In late 2012, the DHS governing body reportedly decided to cancel all sporting fixtures against Glenwood, with the underlying reason allegedly attempts by Glenwood to recruit DHS students who excelled at sport. The situation was, however, resolved and the sporting fixtures continued in 2013 and beyond.
Last year, SARugbymag.co.za reported that Eastern Cape-based schools Dale College and Queen’s College were unhappy that a number of their schoolboys were being targeted by the KwaZulu-Natal schools.
