The Blitzboks have been drawn alongside the USA, Canada and Wales in Pool D for the Las Vegas Sevens in March.
After finishing fourth at this past weekend’s Sydney Sevens, the Blitzboks no longer hold an outright lead at the top of the World Rugby Sevens Series standings, but are tied on points with New Zealand and Fiji.
It should make for an intriguing battle when the sides head into action again, with the Blitzboks receiving a favourable draw for the Las Vegas leg.
Having battled with injuries and uncharacteristic errors in Sydney, the Springbok Sevens had to settle for a fourth-place finish after losing to Fiji in the bronze final.
‘We were down to 10 men with Philip [Snyman] out injured and Kwagga [Smith] suspended,’ coach Neil Powell said. ‘So I had to play the newcomers against Fiji, and they learned a lot from playing such a quality side.’
Cheslin Kolbe and Seabelo Senatla were also included in the Sydney Sevens dream team at the end of the tournament.
