Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers says he warned Allister Coetzee that SA Rugby was setting him up for failure.
SA Rugby announced on Friday that it had reached an agreement with Coetzee to part ways with immediate effect.
‘He was forced out of his job, because people didn’t give him the support he needed so much to be successful,’ De Villiers, who coached the Springboks from 2008 to 2011, told EWN. ‘It happened to me and I told him that it would happen to him too.’
The rugby department of SA Rugby, headed up by Rassie Erasmus, is now set to manage the responsibilities of the Bok coach until the coaching and management group for 2018 is confirmed later in February.
