De Klerk rejoins Boks

Faf de Klerk scores for the Boks Faf de Klerk

Faf de Klerk has joined the Springbok squad in Paris and is available for Saturday’s Test against France.

De Klerk was initially not named in the Bok squad for the end-of-year tour, and was thought to be unavailable due to his club commitments to the Sale Sharks.

However, SA Rugby confirmed on Monday that he has been recalled to the squad ahead of the remaining Tests against France, Scotland and Wales.

Ivan van Zyl started for the Boks last Saturday, with Embrose Papier coming off the bench, but Bok coach Rassie Erasmus acknowledged that they had missed the presence of De Klerk.

It’s expected that the 27-year-old will now reclaim the No 9 jersey for what will be seen as a must-win clash against France.

Apart from De Klerk, five other overseas-based players – Willie le Roux, Cheslin Kolbe, Franco Mostert, Francois Louw and Vincent Koch – have joined the squad in Paris.

‘It’s good to welcome them back into the squad,’ said Bok coach Rassie Erasmus.

‘They bring along some valuable experience and knowledge of the European conditions and we are looking forward to working with them again. All of them will be available for selection for this weekend.’
