Springboks Damian de Allende and RG Snyman will be meeting a specialist again later this week to ‘review next steps of their recovery’ after suffering burns in a fire-pit accident.
The unexplained news emerged out of a medical report from the duo’s Irish club Munster on Monday.
It was stated that De Allende, Snyman, Mike Haley and CJ Stander required treatment for superficial burns following an incident this past weekend.
It was later revealed that De Allende and Snyman sustained ‘more substantial burns to legs, hands and face’ and ‘will not take part in their respective training and rehabilitation programmes, and will meet a specialist again later in the week’.
On Saturday, the World Cup-winning pair were named in Jacques Nienaber’s Springbok squad for the upcoming B&I Lions series and are expected to link up with the squad on completion of their provincial programmes.
This latest scare follows this past weekend’s injury blow to Duane Vermeulen, who suffered a serious ankle injury while in action for the Bulls.
Snyman was already under an injury cloud as he continued to recover from a troublesome knee injury.
Commenting on the accident, head coach Johann van Graan said: ‘We are hugely relieved that the lads are all OK.
‘The players have all been treated and are being well looked after with Damian and RG meeting the specialist again later this week to review next steps of their recovery.’
