All Blacks hooker Dane Coles has signed a two-year contract extension with New Zealand Rugby and the Hurricanes.
The 32-year-old Coles announced this morning that he will stay in Wellington until 2021.
The 60-Test All Blacks hooker said his decision was easy and straightforward.
‘Everyone has got different situations, I can only personally talk from my perspective,’ Coles said. ‘Like [if] I probably had to ask my 16-year-old self, what would I have wanted to do?
‘I never played rugby to chase money, it was always I wanted to play for the love of the game and play for the All Blacks and play for the Canes.’
The 2015 Rugby World Cup winner, who made his long-awaited Test return after a long-term knee injury last year, added that his time out gave him a new perspective.
‘I still feel like there are things that I want to achieve in New Zealand with teams that mean a lot to me.
‘Missing all of last year’s Super Rugby season with injury made me realise just how much I missed being out there for the Hurricanes, and I want more time in the jersey.’
