Allister Coetzee could become the head coach of the Canon Eagles if he loses his Springbok job.
SARugbymag.co.za understands that Coetzee had to win all four matches on the Boks’ current end-of-year tour to keep his job, and that his fate was sealed when the team lost 38-3 to Ireland in Dublin.
SA Rugby’s executive council could fire Coetzee after the tour without having to pay out the rest of his four-year contract, as a 65% win clause would have kicked in.
Under Coetzee, the Boks have won 11 out of 24 Tests (46%) and a win against Wales next weekend would only push that up to 48%.
Coetzee has been in discussions with the Canon Eagles in Japan and could join them in 2018 along with current Bok forwards coach Matt Proudfoot.
Coetzee and Proudfoot coached the Kobelco Steelers before the former was appointed Bok coach.
