The Waratahs produced a near faultless, all-round effort to thrash the Chiefs in Sydney, according to SARugbymag.co.za's Opta-powered stats.
The Chiefs have been the standout side this season and came into Friday’s clash as favourites, but they were completely outplayed by a brutally efficient Waratahs outfit.
As it turned out, the Tahs defied expectations in terms of dominating almost every attacking stat by the end of the final 80 minutes. They scored six tries to four, made 656 running metres to 309 and beat 26 defenders to 18.
In an outstanding defensive display, they also missed only 18 tackles despite having to spend long periods on defence, while they enjoyed ascendancy at scrum time and a 100% success rate at the lineouts.
Israel Folau produced an inspired performace at outside centre, scoring a brace of tries and creating another, while making 186m and beating six defenders.
